Hey, I’m Shelby
a tattoo artist located in Richmond, Virginia. A pleasure to meet you!
My Philosophy
Evoking strength & intentionality with every permanent mark made on the skin. Always tattooed with love.
I believe tattooing is a sacred art, one that belongs to all of us, regardless of who you are or where we come from.
It is how we take autonomy over our bodies in a world telling us what to do & how to feel.
It is how we practice genuine self love and authenticity, instead of engaging in the less helpful cycle of “self improvement”.
It is how we pay homage to our life’s journey thus far. Documenting it into flesh the proof of our lived experiences.
And most importantly, it is about connection. A way to communicate with others who we are in a world so divided.
Tattooing and body modification is some of the oldest rituals practiced by humans as far back as the Copper Age. This article by Lars Krutak about Ötzi, is a good summery on the oldest tattoos on record! Many Anthropologist believe the desire to mark our bodies with meaningful symbols in times of distress and triumph is truly written in our blood. Our bodies have a story to tell with every mark and scar we get along the way and tattoos are no different: each one holding onto the emotion associated with it at the time & the intentional energy of the tattooer.
That is why it is important to me that the experience of getting tattooed is as compassionate and empowering as it is safe & respectful to all of my clients. I know that when enough time passes, you will forget my name and maybe even the things we talked about, but you will remember how i made you feel.
So, it is my honor to be a part of the tattoo journey of so many wonderful people. Thank you to everyone who has trusted me along the way.

“(Shelby) was friendly… she was very helpful and up front about the reality of what I was asking for… I appreciated how thorough and professional she was. She drew up some lovely tattoos for my partner and I and was up front about pricing. During the tattoos she was friendly and we talked about good spots to visit... My partner and I are beyond thrilled with our tattoos… I’ll make it a point to get more work… especially by Shelby!”-Jessica Harris

Client Reviews
“I never wanted to be the person that has "a" tattoo artist. Until I got tattooed by Shelby. Shelby is hands down my FAVORITE tattoo artist I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She's the only artist that's ever tattooed me more than once and I have plans to have her tattoo me many more times in the future!”- Bianca R.
“We were so grateful to have Shelby do our first tattoos…very accommodating to a group of first timers who had an idea, but the details needed discussed a bit further. Very patient, knowledgeable and PROFESSIONAL. She did a better job free-handing the design we wanted than any image we could give an example of. The final result is so lovely and we are so appreciative to now share this significant bond. Thank you thank you thank you! Would absolutely recommend and will definitely be back <3 !”- Lauren L.
